Export Development Executive- ICT

This role will be located in Nova Scotia.

The Export Development Executive (EDE) is responsible for working with Invest Nova Scotia’s exporting and export curious clients to help them develop and pursue market diversification and penetration strategies. The EDE assists in enhancing the market preparedness of Nova Scotia companies through research, counseling, information, and referral to partner organizations.  A principal function of the position is the effective delivery of Nova Scotia’s suite of export development programs and services and to coordinate all facets of educational trade missions, activities, and events. 

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Counsel and offer professional expertise to Nova Scotia’s exporters and potential exporters. 
  • Provide project management for export development activities such as trade missions, trade shows, incoming buyers programs, workshops, and special events. 
  • Identify, recruit, and qualify Nova Scotia businesses for trade events and activities. 
  • Identify and recruit foreign buyers, suppliers, consultants, and others who may have interests in procuring Nova Scotia products and services. 
  • As a member of a provincial or Atlantic sector team, plan, organize, and implement international activities funded under Federal/Provincial Agreements. 
  • Liaise and communicate with staff and officials of Canadian Embassies, Consulates, and High Commissions throughout the world. 
  • Effectively promote and deliver trade related programs to Nova Scotia businesses, industry associations, development organizations, federal and provincial line departments and agencies, and foreign governments and partners. 
  • Identify, prepare, and deliver export readiness and topic specific seminars across the province at the request of Regional Business Development Advisors, Regional Enterprise Networks, Chambers of Commerce, and other organizations representing Nova Scotia businesses. 
  • Participate on sector teams at Invest Nova Scotia and with Provincial and Pan Atlantic partners. 

Education/Professional Experience: 

  • As the successful candidate you possess a bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, or a related discipline with a focus on international trade, and at least five years of practical export development experience. A Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation or working toward a CITP designation is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. 
  • Experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and/or Life Sciences and Clean Technology sector would be considered an asset.

Additional Requirements: 

  • The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain a valid Canadian passport without travel restrictions. 
  •  As part of the delivery of the role responsibilities, this position is required to travel often outside normal business hours. 

Key Competencies: 

  • Sound knowledge of all trade-related policies, procedures, and governing Acts. 
  • Excellent understanding of trade missions, workshops, special events, and associated logistics. 
  • Strong project management capabilities to manage the complete operation of trade workshops, trade missions, and/or trade shows including developing the project concept. 
  • Intermediate skills with CRM software and Microsoft 365. 
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills. 
  • Strong presentation skills to deliver to clients and partners, as well as internally. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with a variety of projects in various stages on a continuous basis. 
  • High level of creativity to: 
    • Convert company capabilities into export growth strategies. 
    • Find solutions to challenges related to companies’ market expansion and product development. 
    • Envision, develop, and pitch new trade projects and programs on a regular basis. 
    • Find funding solutions, partner opportunities, and market entry strategies.  
    • Extremely resilient to cope with ambiguity, extended travel, and irregular schedules while sustaining a high level of energy. 
    • Cultural awareness to comfortably work in foreign environments with sensitivity to local customs and business practices.

Classification: This is a bargaining unit position with an Invest Nova Scotia 7 rate of pay: $79,202.50 -  $94,882.58 based on the March 31, 2024, collective agreement rates. Preference will be given to qualified Invest Nova Scotia NSGEU bargaining unit candidates.
