MISSION FULL: LEAP Halifax: Meeting Opportunities with International Consultants

Nova Scotia Business Inc., in partnership with Innovacorp, Global Affairs Canada, and the Trade Commissioner Services in San Diego, is recruiting companies to participate in an incoming mission with international consultants and venture capitalists from San Diego, USA.

This initiative is part of LEAP Halifax. LEAP Halifax is offered to high innovation companies to leverage San Diego's innovation and commercialization expertise, to help enlighten our tech entrepreneurs and the broader business community about near-term opportunities, accelerate our startups’ commercial readiness, and promote the unique science, technology, and innovation originating in Nova Scotia to the US West Coast business community (LEAP).

High-innovation companies operating in Information Communications Technology (ICT) Ocean Technology, or Clean Technology are invited to apply. Companies will be assessed and selected based on their level of readiness to enter international markets, potential to scale and globally commercialize, and their potential to attract investment. Please Note: This is not an opportunity to pitch for investment.

This mission will involve individual one-hour meetings between the company and the consultants and provide companies with the opportunity to discuss their business, innovative product or service, and seek advice related to business growth and opportunities to scale in the US market. There will also be opportunity for a follow-up telephone discussion the following month to assess progress and determine potential next steps. 

About the consultants:

Mark Bernier is an early-stage and special opportunities investor, asset manager and entrepreneur. He has built and managed privately held and publicly traded businesses in developed and emerging economies, has co-founded Venture Money Management Co., a global asset management firm, and Think Tank Innovation, Inc., a non-profit innovation district in downtown San Diego.

Prashant Kantak is an early-stage venture advisor and investor, helping companies determine strategy for products, organization, and market entry. He has led Qualcomm Ventures, a strategic venture capital fund with operations in North America, Europe and Asia. He currently serves on the advisory board of EvoNexus, local incubator in San Diego.
