Nova Scotia Business Inc. is currently seeking export-ready Nova Scotia food and beverage companies interested in taking part in a one-year initiative to have their products stored, promoted and sold in China.

We will be working in collaboration with a large food and beverage importer in China. The services the importer would provide include:

  • Customs clearance and commodity inspection
  • Bounded warehousing
  • Promotion on multiple online platforms
  • On/offline sales
  • Pricing strategy
  • Logistics and distribution
  • Sales and data analysis

Service fees:
NSBI will cover the importer service fees for the first six months and cover 50% of of the importer service fees for the remaining six months.

NSBI will also coordinate and consolidate the first shipment from Halifax to lower the overall shipping costs. Companies will be responsible for the cost of their products, shipping fees, and have to be willing to have their products put in consignment until sold.

Eligibility:
NSBI will determine which companies are eligible for consideration to the importer. The importer will then make the final decision on which companies will be selected. Only those companies that meet the following eligibility criteria will be considered:

  1. Must be actively exporting outside of Nova Scotia
  2. Have shown interest in the Chinese market in the past, whether through use of NSBI and/or other government services, or through your own initiatives
  3. Have the capacity to produce and ship 10 pallets of products within a two-week timeline
  4. Be willing to provide a wholesale price list upon request
  5. Have products that can be ready to ship by November 2017
  6. Be willing to have all marketing material translated to Mandarin
  7. Be willing to put products in consignment
  8. Be willing to pay for shipping costs
  9. Be willing to have sales and promotional data and analysis shared with NSBI

The importer will make the final decision on which companies will be selected. The selection criteria includes:

  1. Number of skus available
  2. Pricing
  3. Perceived fit for Chinese market
  4. Willingness to do private label
