Kelley Muise, local psychic/medium featured on Redneck Psychic.
Redneck Psychic is a one-hour documentary from Beyond Productions Inc. which began filming in February, 2017. We caught up with director Ben Stewart to learn more about the production.
Tell us about the production
We’re going to be following psychic/medium Kelley Muise. She lives in the backwoods of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. She has had this amazing ability since she was seven-years old, when she was first visited by a ghost. Her grandmother had the same ability, and helped her understand the responsibility of her gift. It’s something she can’t run or hide from, so she embraced it to help others. We’re basically going to reveal her gift to an audience that we feel is going to really connect with her and who she is.
What communities will you be filming in?
Kelley lives completely off the grid. She and her husband hunt their own food, run on solar, the whole bit. We’ll be trekking through the woods down there, and following her wherever she works. Exploring haunted houses, maybe catching an exorcism or maybe working on a cold case. A lot of traveling. Yarmouth, Halifax, along the south shore - wherever the spooky stuff is.
What kind of crew will be working on a project like this?
The whole crew is from Nova Scotia. Anyone involved will need to be open-minded and ready to embrace the unexplained. Our crew really digs the paranormal, they’re inquisitive and they really want to find some answers. We’re going to try our hardest to find them. I love a good ghost story, and I'm not afraid to sit alone in the dark for hours finding one. I’ll be working with a mix of writers and researchers to try and hunt down the most interesting people in the most haunted locations. Our camera crew is seasoned in this kind of thing, so we won’t have to worry about the cameras looking the wrong way when we eventually find something.
What is the best thing about filming this production in Nova Scotia?
Nova Scotia is culturally rich in the paranormal genre; it doesn’t take long to figure that out. It's our heritage, our history, and our sea-going nature that all combined, offer us these incredible locations with fantastic paranormal stories attached to them. Kelley has this rich Acadian heritage that has certain customs in regards to the paranormal which make her a very interesting character - it’s a no brainer. Nova Scotia is as big a player in the paranormal community as any place else in the world.
