Outsourcing expert boasts Nova Scotia’s workforce

Meet ConnectNS network member, Dr. Ron Babin, an internationally recognized outsourcing expert with a deep-rooted family history in Acadia dating back to 1640.



Toronto-based Dr. Ron Babin’s outsourcing career spans over 25 years. A graduate of the Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester, where he received a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), Dr. Babin has extensive experience as a senior management consultant at two global consulting firms – KPMG and Accenture.

Dedicated to the education and the development of student and clients in the area of IT and business management, Dr. Babin now lends his expertise in business and IT management at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University in Toronto as an Associate Professor, Director of Corporate and Executive Education, and Faculty Association Executive. Dr. Babin is a member of the Centre for Outsourcing Research and Education (CORE) and the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP).

We caught up with Dr. Babin to hear his thoughts on his industry and Nova Scotia:

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Nova Scotia”?

Canada’s early history.

What do you love most about doing what you do professionally?

I am an outsourcing professional, always interested in Canada’s position in the competitive global information economy. In particular, I am very interested and conduct ongoing research in socially responsible outsourcing.   

What’s the best lesson you ever learned?

Global economic forces are beyond the control of most countries, but education can be a powerful national investment for social and economic well-being.

What’s the greatest asset(s) Nova Scotia can offer the outsourcing industry?

A highly educated and multi-cultural workforce.

What do you miss most about Nova Scotia?

A balanced and relaxed pace of life ― certainly compared to Toronto!
