Key components of the Supplementary Employment Benefit (S.E.B) Plan
While an employee is on Pregnancy/Parental/Adoption leave – NSBI shall maintain coverage for medical, extended health, group life and any other employee benefit plan and shall continue to pay its share of premium costs for maintaining such coverage during the period of Parental Leave.

Maternity Leave
The NSBI employee on maternity leave is eligible to:

  • 2 weeks of pay at the equivalent of 75% of her weekly pay for the 2 week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits;
  • 5 weeks of salary top up (Maternity Leave Allowance) at 93% of weekly pay;
  • 10 weeks of salary top up (Parental Leave Allowance) at 93% of weekly pay;
  • An additional 35 weeks of unpaid leave.

Parental Leave (in the case of a Father taking Parental leave instead of a Mother)
An NSBI employee who decides to take parental leave is eligible to:  10 weeks of salary top up (Parental Leave Allowance) at 93% of weekly pay.

Adoption Leave
An NSBI employee who has become a parent of one or more children through adoption is eligible to an unpaid absence of up to 52 weeks, upon giving NSBI four weeks of notice.

The NSBI employee who decides to take adoption leave is eligible to:

  • 2 weeks of pay at the equivalent of 75% of his or her weekly pay for the 2 week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits;
  • 10 weeks of salary top up (Parental Leave Allowance) at 93% of weekly pay;
  • An additional 40 weeks of unpaid leave.
(Please note that only 1 parent can serve the 2 week waiting period. Because both parents can split the parental/adoption leave, the maximum allowed cannot exceed 52 weeks).
