The Next Five Years

Targets

Next Five Years

Since 2001, NSBI has focused on results, not activity. Activity is critical, but it must support the targets. In the first five years, it was about job creation.

Now, it’s not just about jobs. It’s about working with clients to create the right jobs.

Jobs that provide the opportunities to match the skills of the province’s
graduates and workforce.

Jobs that offer competitive salaries. Jobs that will create prosperity for the province.

For these reasons, NSBI’s key accountability metric is not just job creation, but total payroll created and retained by its clients. This captures not only job numbers, but also average salaries. NSBI’s new target is:

  • $800 million in total client payroll created and retained over the next five years.

The target is aggressive but achievable.

This will assist the organization in reaching its ultimate goal of its clients creating and retaining $1 billion in total payroll by 2013.

The total payroll metric is a more strategic measurement tool for NSBI. It ensures the organization is focused. It aligns business units. It gives NSBI a unified purpose.

Vision

In 2001, NSBI created a vision for the organization – a process of translating the intent of the statute that created NSBI into an understanding of what it needed to become and how it needed to operate to achieve its goals.

The organization works for the interests of the province and it must continue to be fully accountable to the people of Nova Scotia.

NSBI’s vision is:

“ A strong, prosperous and competitive Nova Scotia. ”

Mission

NSBI’s commitment to growing and sustaining the economy of Nova Scotia has not wavered throughout the years.

The organization’s mission is:

“ To deliver client-focused business solutions that result in strong, sustainable economic growth and prosperity for the Province of Nova Scotia. ”
