Usually held in mid-May, it is Nova Scotia's foremost exporter recognition event, attracting more than 500 people. Applications for the Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards are accepted annually in January and February.
There are seven award categories:
- The New Exporter award is presented to a company that has recently become an active exporter, with a promising future for international market development.
- The Long Term Exporter award recognizes a well-established company that has been exporting for much of its history and for which exporting has played a significant role in its longevity.
- The Export Growth through New Markets award is presented to a company that has significantly expanded its business by successfully targeting and penetrating new export markets.
- The Export Growth through Product Development award is presented to a company that has capitalized on an export opportunity by identifying and developing markets for new products and/or services.
- The Export Growth through Partnerhsips award is presented to a company or partnering companies that have demonstrated the benefits of partnering or alliances to increase their export growth.
- The Export Growth through Sales award recognizes a company's major increase in its export sales over the past year.
- The Canadian Market Development award recognizes sales growth within the Canadian marketplace, but outside of Nova Scotia.
- Each year, one company that has been entered for consideration among these seven award categories, will receive the Exporter of the Year Award. This award recognizes the highest accomplishment in exporting for the year.
