Oxford-based Blueberry Supplier Expands

The world's largest supplier of frozen wild blueberries is responding to growing international demand.  

Oxford Frozen FoodsOxford Frozen Foods is expanding its Oxford-based plant to increase capacity. The province, through NSBI, is supporting this project with a fully repayable, interest-bearing $5-million term loan. Oxford Frozen Foods is investing $5.6 million. 

"Oxford Frozen Foods is a long-standing employer in Nova Scotia, and a company that is actively involved in trade and export," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development. "This loan is another example of the jobsHere plan in action." 

The company, which has operated in Nova Scotia since 1968, exports its products to markets in North America, Europe, Asia and the Americas. The expansion will add 20 million pounds of freezer capacity.  

"Increased global competition and instability in the global market have changed the game for Oxford Frozen Foods," said company president and CEO John Bragg. "These investments make us more competitive in the world stage by helping further grow our supply and processing business." 

"This also strengthens our commitment to the thousand or more wild blueberry producers in the province by allowing us to process and store the wild blueberries they grow." 

Oxford is also Canada's largest processor and producer of frozen carrots, purchasing millions of pounds annually from Nova Scotia farms.

In addition to being the world's largest supplier of quality frozen wild blueberries and Canada's premier processor of frozen carrot products, Oxford Frozen Food produces diced onions, cranberries and frozen rutabaga. The company also has a state-of-the-art appetizer manufacturing facility which produces onion rings, cheese sticks and battered vegetables.
