The worldwide IT industry is expanding, and growth-oriented companies are looking to Nova Scotia as the starting line.
New Brunswick-based Professional Quality Assurance Ltd., a Canadian leader in independent software testing, is expanding to Nova Scotia.
"Business is booming right now and our future is bright," said Keith McIntosh, president and CEO of Professional Quality Assurance (PQA). "Nova Scotia has the vibrant IT community and skilled workforce to support our growth, and it's right here in the Maritimes."
Working closely with Nova Scotia Business Inc., the company plans to create up to 200 full-time jobs at its new location in Dartmouth. The province, through NSBI, is supporting the growth with a five-year payroll rebate to a maximum of $1.89 million.
The payroll rebate is a performance-based incentive invested as the company achieves yearly employment targets.
The Department of Economic Development, through the Industrial Expansion Fund, is also providing the company with $600,000 for recruitment and training.
"PQA is a welcome addition to a strong technology sector in Nova Scotia," said Economic Development Minister Angus MacIsaac. "We're proud to invest in a company that provides specialized training and new job opportunities in this province."
Employees will make an average annual salary of $45,000 per year, including benefits.
PQA will hire new graduates from community college and university IT programs, as well as experienced professionals in the field of software testing and quality assurance. The company will also provide in-house training, as software testing is a specialized skill.
"Technology is everywhere, and the IT industry around the world shows no signs of slowing down," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI. "PQA's growth is further proof to parents, teachers and young people that there are jobs in IT, and they're right here at home."
PQA is a national leader in software testing and quality assurance solutions and services, content quality assurance and learning solutions, and data validation. It has been serving public and private-sector companies worldwide for more than 10 years.
Nova Scotia Business Inc. is Nova Scotia's private-sector-led business development agency. NSBI is the investment attraction arm of the province and helps businesses in Nova Scotia meet growth potential through advisory services, trade development, financing and venture capital.
