Nova Scotia's technology sector continues to grow, adding an Ottawa-based IT service company to the mix.
Lixar IT Inc., a web technology services company, plans to create up to 50 full-time jobs in Halifax over the next six years.
"We see a lot of potential for Lixar to grow beyond North America," said Emmanuel Florakas, president of Lixar IT Inc. "Nova Scotia's talented workforce, geographic location, and cost-competitive environment offers the perfect nearshore location to support Lixar's success."
As part of Nova Scotia Business Inc.'s strategy to help further grow the IT sector, the agency worked closely with Lixar to support its expansion to Nova Scotia.
The province, through NSBI, is supporting the company's growth with a six-year payroll rebate set at a maximum $900,900. The payroll rebate is a performance-based incentive invested as the company achieves yearly employment targets.
"Lixar represents a growing number of technology companies choosing Nova Scotia for their expansion," said Economic Development Minister Angus MacIsaac. "Working with the company, we're helping create exciting career opportunities for skilled, young Nova Scotians."
Over its eight years, Lixar has evolved into an established web technology services company with clients that stretch across the country.
"Nova Scotia's access point to international markets is a valuable asset to any company with global growth plans," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI. "NSBI is proactively working to attract and grow the IT sector and Lixar is exactly the kind of company we are excited to see grow in Nova Scotia."
