Seven Nova Scotia companies won honours at the 25th Annual Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards last night.
The winning companies had combined export sales of more than $84.4 million in 2007.
"In today's global economy, exporting is vital," said Premier Rodney MacDonald. "This year's winners of Export Achievement Awards are bringing Nova Scotia to the world, and their combined contribution to our economy is helping drive our province forward."
The winning companies and their awards are:

-- Long_Term Exporter, LP East River Plant
-- Export Growth Through New Markets, Fossil Power Systems Inc.
-- Export Growth Through Product Development, Trail Blazer Products Limited
-- Export Growth Through Partnership, PV Inspection Services Limited
-- Export Growth Through Sales, Cherubini Metal Works Limited
-- Canadian Market Development, Stark Oil
Cherubini Metal Works Limited also took home the award for Exporter of the Year.
"This is a great time to celebrate the achievements of companies finding success in export markets," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. "Nova Scotia companies have faced challenges such as a high Canadian dollar. These seven award-winners are proof we are successfully competing and carving out opportunities in the global economy."
This year's keynote speaker was Mike Duffy, host of CTV's Mike Duffy Live, who shared his unique insight into canadian politics.
Originally from the Maritimes, Mr.Duffy has more than 25 years experience in the national media. He has held positions with CBC Radio News, CBC TV and CTV. In 1994, Mr. Duffy became a member of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
