Homegrown Life Sciences Company Expands

A homegrown business success, Ascenta Health Ltd., is expanding its Dartmouth headquarters and creating up to 35 new jobs. The company develops award-winning natural health products and is an industry leader in omega-3 fish oil supplements.

The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), has signed a five-year payroll rebate set at a maximum of $368,550 to support the company's expansion, as it positions itself to capture more international market success.
Economic Development Minister Angus MacIsaac made the announcement today, March 4, along with Marc St-Onge, president of Ascenta Health and Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI.

"We are excited to see Ascenta Health expand and create opportunities in Nova Scotia's life sciences sector," said Mr. MacIsaac. "Ascenta Health is creating opportunities for our skilled workers and talented graduates to live, learn and work right here in Nova Scotia."

Highlighting the company's commitment to the health and well-being of the environment, Mr. St-Onge announced that his company has made a commitment to donate $250,000 to three environmental organizations by February  2010 as part of their membership to 1% for the Planet. The recipient organizations are the Nova Scotia Nature Trust, the David Suzuki Foundation and the Environmental Defence Fund.

Ascenta Health is the first natural health products manufacturer to become a member of the organization 1% for the Planet, an alliance of businesses committed to using their resources to create a healthier planet.
