Aug 21, 2008

A United Kingdom-based insurance service provider is expanding in Nova Scotia.

Admiral Insurance plans to create up to 400 jobs in Halifax within the next five years. The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), is supporting the growth with a payroll rebate to a maximum of $2,836,500.

"Great employers like Admiral Insurance are offering unique work opportunities for people living in Nova Scotia," said Economic Development Minister Angus MacIsaac. "This expansion highlights the advantages Nova Scotia offers to growth-oriented companies like Admiral."

The company will earn the rebate as it achieves performance targets tied to productivity and staffing.

"We're by no means a conventional insurance company," said Alex MacDonald, vice-president of Admiral Insurance in Halifax. "Every employee plays an important part in Admiral's success. We're excited to be expanding our business in Halifax and continuing to play an active role in the community."

Admiral Insurance has operated in Halifax since 2007. The company's first year brought high customer service satisfaction rates. Since then, Admiral has consistently expanded.

The new jobs will include insurance renewals and sales, while primarily serving clients in the United Kingdom.

"This announcement proves that our business case is solid," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI. "International companies continue to make Nova Scotia a partner in their growth plans."
Admiral Insurance Services operates under Admiral Group PLC - a company launched in 1993 from the United Kingdom. The company has been listed in the Sunday Times's 100 Best Companies to Work For during the past six years, listed in the Financial Times list as one of the 50 Best Workplaces in the U.K., and listed in 100 Best Workplaces in the E.U.
