Michael Donovan to be keynote speaker at EAA

HALIFAX - Academy Award winner Michael Donovan, producer of the critically acclaimed Bowling for Columbine, will be the keynote speaker at the 19th Annual Export Achievement Awards, to be held Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax.

Mr. Donovan has shown great leadership in marketing Nova Scotia film and film production on an international stage, said Stephen Lund, President and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc. His success is an example of the growing diversity of our export base and further increases awareness and recognition of Nova Scotia abroad.

Michael Donovan is Executive Producer of Salter Street Films, an Alliance Atlantis company that develops and produces original film and television programming. He is currently executive producing the 11th season of the hit comedy series This Hour Has 22 Minutes for CBC Television.  Recently, Donovan executive produced the social satire The Awful Truth with Michael Moore, which earned him an Emmy nomination. He has co-produced Bowling for Columbine, which has become the highest grossing documentary of all time.

The Export Achievement Awards honour Nova Scotia companies that have excelled marketing their products or services outside of the province in 2002. The awards, to be hosted by Nova Scotia Business Inc. in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, are presented annually to Nova Scotia companies,  large and small, that have made valuable contributions to the provincial economy through exports of their goods and services.

Provincial exports contribute more than $5 billion annually to our economy, and increasing that value over time is key to encouraging economic growth, said Mr. Lund. The Export Achievement Awards recognize export leaders and encourage others to follow along the path of success.
