A leading web-search advertising and software-development company is expanding its Halifax headquarters, setting the stage for international growth.
Nova Scotia-based IT Interactive Services Inc. created the people-friendly search platform GenieKnows.com, which helps improve the quality of search results and increases the probability of quickly connecting to the right information.
The company uses technology to eliminate geographic boundaries by engaging people in online communities. The recently launched GenieKnowsGames.com is a community built around the booming game industry. It acts as a portal for online, game-related information, ranging from reviews and blogs, to how-to guides.
IT Interactive plans to add up to 200 jobs over the next six years. The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc., is assisting IT Interactive's growth in Nova Scotia with payroll rebate set at a maximum $2,082,500.
Agriculture Minister Brooke Taylor, on behalf of Economic Development Minister Richard Hurlburt, made the announcement today, Aug. 14, along with Barbara Manning, president and CEO of IT Interactive Services Inc.; Paul Kent, member of the NSBI board of directors, a Fellow of the Canadian Information Processing Society, and a former senior executive with xwave and Bell Aliant; and Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI.
"This expansion is adding to the growth of Nova Scotia's knowledge-based economy," said Mr. Taylor. "IT Interactive is a great example of a global business that is keeping our talented workers in the province."
IT Interactive was recently ranked as a top 10 employer in Atlantic Canada by Progress Magazine. The company currently has 29 full-time employees at its Halifax location.
"Continuing to expand our business in Nova Scotia makes sense for us," said Ms. Manning. "Here, we have access to the right people and facilities to help us continue to succeed at home and abroad."
IT Interactive plans to open offices in the U.K. and Asia.
"IT Interactive is making itself more competitive right here in our backyard," said Mr. Kent. "This expansion represents yet another tremendous opportunity as this business establishes itself at home, in Europe and around the world as a leading online-technology provider."
The payroll rebate will strengthen the Halifax headquarters and spearhead the company's overall growth.
"IT Interactive is a young, dynamic company competing on a world stage and we are proud to be a partner," said Mr. Lund.
