Pictou County's Annual Business Achievement Awards

Aug 1, 2003

New Glasgow, N.S. - Start marking your ballots! Nominations for the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce's 12th Annual Business Achievement Awards are now being accepted. The awards honour outstanding, innovative firms and individuals in a range of categories. In addition to familiar awards such as Business of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year, the Chamber is adding a new prize to its slate - The Nova Scotia Business Inc. Export Achievement Award. This award recognizes a Pictou County company that has achieved success over the past year through the development of new or existing export markets and significantly contributed to Nova Scotia's economic growth. NSBI will also feature the award winner at the 20th Annual Export Achievement Awards gala, held next spring in Halifax.

We are very pleased to be able to sponsor this award because it recognizes exporting excellence in Pictou County and will hopefully encourage other businesses to take advantage of their own exporting capabilities and opportunities, said Lynn Coffin, Pictou County's account executive for Nova Scotia Business Inc. One of our roles at NSBI is to strengthen our economy by increasing our province's exports, so we are always encouraging our companies to find new export markets to help us in that role.

Also new to the Awards process  is the introduction of an electronic nomination form. Available on the Chamber's web site, www.pictouchamber.com , the form allows site visitors to recognize worthy businesses by simply pointing and clicking.  According to Chamber Executive Director Barrie MacMillan the online form is intended to make the nomination process as user-friendly and inclusive as possible.

The more accessible we can make the nomination process then the greater the number of nominations we're likely to receive. Our goal is to have a large, well qualified pool of nominees in all of our categories, he said.

The Chamber also welcomes nominations via mail, fax or e-mail.

The 12th Annual Pictou County Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards winners will be announced during a gala on Nov 12 at the deCoste Entertainment Centre. The evening's guest speaker will be Nova Scotia Community College President Ray Ivany.  For more information on the Business Achievement Awards call the Chamber at 755-3463 or e-mail pchg.net
