Chief responsibilities:
- All aspects of Corporate Finance
- Daily cash flow management
- Management of short term investments
- Managing debt of over $100 million; including repayments and arranging new financing as needed with government
Corporate financial planning including budgeting and forecasting of income and expenses, cash flow and commitments
- All aspects of Corporate Accounting
Preparation, analysis and reporting of monthly financial results to senior management. Includes interpretation of information to assess operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the corporation
- Produce quarterly and annual financial statements for distribution and presentation to the Audit Committee and/or Board of Directors
- Develop, implement and monitor internal controls and procedures within Finance and Accounting to ensure corporate assets are properly safeguarded, transactions are properly recorded, and books and records are properly maintained
- Accounting and monitoring of investment portfolio, including application of appropriate accounting policies regarding valuation and measurement
- External reporting to government stakeholders
- Co-ordination of external audit
- Manage staff of 3
- Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel including providing recommendations regarding changes in compensation. The Controller has the duty to keep all staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet corporate needs and objectives
- Payroll and taxation
- Reporting of third party payroll remittances, HST remittances, Corporate Tax return
- Overseeing the T4 and T4A process
Qualifications:
- CA, CGA or CMA with five to ten years’ post-qualification professional experience
- Demonstrated technical skills in accounting and finance; candidates with knowledge of and experience working with the Provincial government framework would be considered an asset
- The ability to articulate and position the importance of budget/financial considerations in a fast-paced environment as well as communicating the impact of specific initiatives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills - requires frequent interaction with corporate Senior Management, Board and Committee members, and senior Government officers
- Strong computer skills – Microsoft Excel knowledge a must, SAP experience will be considered an asset
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and work under deadlines and time constraints
- Experience managing others
- Self-motivated team player.
