Community Involvement

"Let's be honest, we board the Life Bus and head to
Canadian Blood Services because it's in us to give,
but also for the cookies."

Peter MacAskill, Chief Operating Officer

NSBI employees are involved.

We support the community through activities that encourage sustainable living within our province.

  • Literacy
Our official corporate giving opportunity, staff regularly participate in events and opportunities to expand literary skills across the province.

  • Life Bus – Blood Donor
Every couple months, NSBI staff board the Life Bus and generously give blood to save the lives of Nova Scotians.

  • Junior Achievement
We regularly volunteer time to educate youth in Nova Scotia about the value of an education and the opportunities here at home.

  • United Way
We participate in the yearly United Way giving campaigns. In 2011, NSBI  received the ‘Quantum Leap Award’, which is given to organizations that achieve a 25% and higher increase in total dollars raised. We see our participation in the United Way as a chance to give back to the community and offer leadership opportunities to staff who run our successful campaigns.

Additionally, we are active in many more community initiatives, including Habitat for Humanity and Adsum House.

Most importantly, we support each other. If a staff member is working toward a cause, we all chip in. Let’s just say, casual Friday is a commodity.
