J.W. Mason

J.W. Mason and Sons Ltd. is a family-owned business and one of the largest apple growing companies on Canada’s East Coast.

Achieve Success One Bushel at a Time
Since J.W. Mason planted his first orchard in 1939, J.W. Mason and Sons Ltd. has grown into a family-owned business that employs more than 60 people year round and several hundred people in peak seasons.

With a desire to take the Windsor-based company to the next level and certainty that they could guarantee on-time delivery of quality product over any distance, company owners and grandsons of J.W., decided that export was a step in the right direction. Steve Wells, director and part owner, heard of an NSBI-led information session about exporting to South Carolina. After attending, he felt it provided him with enough information to know that they wanted to pursue the South Carolina market further.

In February of 2004, Steve took part in a four-day mission to South Carolina. Led by NSBI in collaboration with the Atlantic Canada World Trade Centre and the South Carolina World Trade Center, he met face-to-face with key representatives of several major grocery chains and warehousing distribution companies in the region.

Business Result Achieved:Prosperity
Dedication to quality at a very competitive price, along with knowledge, experience and hard work are at the core of the company’s ever-growing success in the apple industry. Over the years, J.W. Mason and Sons Ltd. has extended its product line to include ciders and honey. It has improved its productivity through better transportation and new storage technologies. And the company’s client base has expanded to include some of the biggest grocery chains in the Atlantic region.

I would say that we have established at least three solid relationships through those meetings. We're now doing follow up that could lead to significant sales.
