With more than 3,500 employees and four operations in Nova Scotia alone, it comes as no surprise that Convergys is one of the largest private-sector employers in the province; and not to mention, one of the top five largest contact centres in North America.
The doors to its first site in Dartmouth opened in 1998, and in only one year, Convergys opened a second one - this time in New Glasgow. It wasn’t too long after the Dartmouth and New Glasgow sites were up and running that the centre opened a third site in Truro and yet another one in Digby. Currently, the Dartmouth site has the largest employee base in Canada – a testament to the thousands of skilled workers calling Nova Scotia home.
With this kind of sustainable, long-term growth already in Nova Scotia, Convergys will continue to play a critical role in the strength and sustainability of the industry - but it’s only one of many contact centres committed to growing their business in Nova Scotia. The province is home to a maturing contact centre industry representing more than 50 companies and employing close to 20,000 people.
Despite economic challenges such as the Canadian dollar and shifting US markets, contact centres have not only been able to sustain, but build on their operations in Nova Scotia.
And one way they’ve been able to do it is through the support of the Contact Centre Nova Scotia Association (CCNS). It was formed in 2006 by industry leaders who came together to prove their commitment to the advancement of the industry. The association has already hosted ‘meet and greet’ events, breakfast symposiums and recruitment drives, all centred on its mission: “to facilitate the exchange of ideas and strategic information to evolve solutions to manage contact centres today.”
The contact centre industry in Nova Scotia is here to stay. Leading, global centres like Convergys continue to compete on the world stage, continue to employ our talented workers and will continue to mature here at home.
